  HALCYON DAYS...... 2010-11-22 18:25:28

Sad to say and even worse to see, but the rapid demise of such a highly ambitious programme as Nifc's previously backed "Community Champions-SuperLeague" was just a matter of time..

From the "halcyon days" at those glamour filled NUFC Littlebenton Academy venues, Benton's Blue Flames & Coach Lane's Prestigious facilities, together with Ponteland's Leisure and latterly Benfield Sports Centre's and Brunswick Pavilion's, established Wideopen country park..

All these combined with a plethora of exceptional contest prizes contributed to the attraction and signing up to the *16 team, two grouped competition.. Top class, high profile, high quality sides like ITV-Tyne Tees/Corner House/North Tyne/Baobab/West Jesmond/Central Heaton/Newcastle_(Continental)/Newcastle_Medics/Sol_Tigers/(SAS)_(Sunderland)/South Gosforth FC/Heaton Park Rangers/Sunderland Bangladeshi Association (SBFC) etc, etc

Tough disciplinary procedures and a refreshing no nonsense approach led to the competitions definitive stamp of class and innovation with all involved ready to fly the flag for universal, unilateral sporting integration on the field of play..

Teams were always assured of being able to compete on a level playing field, for some truly magnificent trophies and prizes in comfortable top quality surroundings, without fear of intimidation, violence, racism or intolerance and the sky seemed to be the limit for such bold, even brash aims..At this point we can but 'sigh' at the desperate depths to which things have now sunk, once the visionary ideas and practices it was introduced to portray had been derailed.. Only time will tell whether lesson's can be learned of course..

A powerful, passionate performance by subsequent Ccl "champions" NASA at the end of a week of shockingly blatant, albeit behind the scenes 'political' skullduggery. However, owner manager and club kingpin (Akpofure OTT) skillfully fielded the vitriol and positively revitalised his boys to take on the challenge of the oppressed minority! Result? A top class turn out and another glorious win for NASA. Scorers were Drogba Nkuriza, Ansah and Chan with only opposition keeper (Gallagher's) brilliant display preventing a runaway rout.

Blagdon BULLS_(Cramlington) v NASA_(Continental)_(Northumberland-Teesside) - 2010-06-12 -
A cracking end season fixture at Alexandra Park on a rain soaked day saw newly crowned Ccl champions NASA come back from 2-0 down to win in dramatic style over their highly touted local opponents. The game was fairly competitive, but superbly marshalled by top official (John Harper) and despite the weather, still produced enough entertainment for a sizeable crowd. 2 unfortunate 1st half NASA errors had resulted in a 2-0 deficit, but a (Conway) strike, coupled with brilliant finishes from (Omoigui) sealed the victory, silencing the gloating, highly disrespectful "minority" on the oppositions side of the touchline.

NASA (Scorers) were: MOM Kelvein "Osaks" Omoigui 2 and Dale Conway

In a pulsating, exciting match the local side, a combination of the "Travellers-Hind" FC's triumphed 3-2 in extra-time. However, NASA were badly let down by a "highly dubious" penalty awarded for an innocuous challenge in the box and two "catastrophic" goalkeeping errors, leading to "Kingpin" (Akpofure) commenting on the act of "divine intervention" preventing the treasured cup from leaving cramlington for the first time in 3 years! God willing, Continental will be back next year following their impressive showing... A great and rapidly growing event deserves the highest quality...

NEWCASTLE "INTERNATIONAL" 4 v GATESHEAD PEARTREE 0

Accompanied by the smooth tones of the world's number 1 "Hip-Hop" rapper (Nasir Jones) "Naz"'s defiant 'Ether' track.. Nifc_Kingpin and CCL (Founder) (Akpofure TT Ovire) showed his "creative, some may even say flawed genius" by unleashing this video clip years ahead of it's time (2001)

Awesome! Long may "superstars" like Rappa Hissein, Mark "Nod" Robinson, Gil "Eusebio" Henriques, Sam "The Man" Njie, Victor "The Vicar" Nwosu, Raymond "RayMeo" Oshin, Kevin "Chop" Moore, Matty "Ginola" Graham and Amadeu "George" Baltazar reign..

All were staunch allies in the establishment of the Nifc "legend" as the "Northern Lions" carved up, tore apart, then destroyed a very strong Peartree side, (Alan Pegram, Brian Howarth, Ray Watson etc, etc) on an atrocious muddy, churned up playing surface at George Stephenson High School, Killingworth (4-0) with goals coming from (Rappa Hissein 2, Victor Nwosu & Neil Hooley). Man of the match Mark "Nod" Robinson pulled the strings in centre midfield, ably assisted by Gil "Eusebio" Henriques, with Nifc superstar Rappa Hissein ensuring the Lions got culpable revenge for their unlucky 4-3 loss in the two sides first clash earlier on that season. Both exceptional sides were debuting in the Central Sunday Afternoon League and eventually finished first and third, securing promotion to the premier division at the first time of asking..

(2002): Training exercise!!
HIGH SPEN BUTE ARMS "B" 0 v NEWCASTLE "INTERNATIONAL" 10 -

The "Northern Lions", as they were known by, due to their feisty, exciting, entertaining and often unpredictable blend of football arrived in the outlying neighbourhood of High Spen, with a 5 car convoy, then proceeded to dish out a "footballing" lesson to the local public house's "B" (Reserve) side..

Although missing some crucial stars like Rappa Hissein, Matty Graham, Dan Francis and Pac Oginni through injury and work requirents, Akpofure still managed to produce another high quality line up, consisting of Player of the year Mark "Nod" Robinson, Gil "Eusebio" Henriques, Ray-Meo Oshin, Sam Njie, Kevin "Chop" Moore, Chris Daley, Andy "Goals" Nordenfeldt and brother Mark, Amadeu "George" Baltazar, ensured the "locals" were introduced to NIFC in no uncertain terms.. All manner of "records" could and should have been set that day, but (Manager) Akpofure was thoroughly delighted with the final score.. "We've travelled up here, educated and enlightened a critical, curious, inquisitive audience" and shown them the virtues of our beautiful "integration" policy.. This side has come together from various cultural and geographical backgrounds and still managed to fly the flag with style and class, playing the type of football the local public up here have always appreciated..

We are proud to act as "ambassadors" for "education", "integration", "unity" and "togetherness".. We will continue doing our best to promote these "themes"..

At least 4 currently confirmed team's are set to participate in Nifc's highly touted (New) Community-Champions Challenge Series set to kick off in late 2008. Featuring a quartet of 'hq' 'BME' orientated teams, in an exciting move aimed at uniting the region's communities..

Northumberland And Stockton African_(Continental) fulfilled their unscripted destiny in May 2010. Climbing the highest of mountains to reach the "promised land" of premier league success, thus securing an "historic" previously unheard of regional north east title triumph.

In a game they simply had to win to secure the teams first ever championship title triumph, Contenders Cup finalists Collingwood FC were destroyed 5-1 by a devastating NASA performance, after finishing so close 2 years previously in an exceptional but bitterly and hotly disputed 'Grand Final' loss!..

Despite the disgracefully blatant scheming, extremely hostile antics allied to an all-out dirty tricks campaign from the main protagonists, both then and now, surprisingly and unfortunately aided and abetted by the usual suspects on that programme's committee and governing body, this time was to prove a vastly different outcome!

"Continental" had started very sharply with "Hitman" Ansah producing a brilliant volley in the 2nd minute to rapturous applause and a promised verse from the Justin Bieber smash hit 'Baby'!!

However, Collingwood had managed to overcome NASA twice from three earlier meetings during the season, were a very good side at their best and came back strongly, playing with full commitment to equalise from a poorly defended corner kick... Nevertheless, NASA kept focus, maintaining full concentration, composure and their exceptional quality all over the field told in the end..

Stunning strikes from *(Man of the Match) Dumbuya and *(Player of the Year) Die led to joyous celebrations at the realisation that their teams time had indeed come and regardless of all the bitterness, political lobbying, etc all connected with NASA knew the enormity of their achievement...

Superbly orchestrated and guided by since retired owner/manager (Akpofure OTT), latterly advised, supported and assisted by none other than former NUFC star (Olivier 'Legend' Bernard) and now rather grudgingly acknowledged as an outstanding champion of legendary repute.

Akpofure, a proud, competitive, albeit immensely burdened personality, along with his brave, not to mention supremely gifted, talented and dedicated players overcame enormous obstacles and challenges, making huge personal sacrifices, in order to deliver the competition's greatest ever prize as part of a lasting legacy!

In the words of the team’s outspoken, charismatic and oft maligned leader; "Together we climbed a very steep mountain, scaled the peak to arrive at the "promised land" of championship title glory. As fully expected, the journey was littered with dangerous obstacles, brutal challenges and ruthless challengers, often disgraceful and shocking skullduggery among other negative issues. Regardless, these truly exceptional players somehow united behind myself and their beloved team and in their exemplary achievement, (even though failing to take down 'bitter' arch rivals Fawdon) to win a glorious league/cup 'double', the record books show and indeed history will acknowledge that this outstanding side finished as worthy 'champions' of that competition and will forever hold its greatest prize(s) as due recognition and encouragement to other's among the local community, to strive and attain great heights, better themselves and always aim for the top in whatever they do! -

This monumental success, indeed the triumph over unrelenting odds, adversity and disgraceful negativity will only realise it's true greatness in years to come but we're all truly proud and delighted to have passed the ultimate test.. I would just say at this point to those who played major parts in the ridiculous behind the scenes, antics, blatant plotting and numerous attempts to alter the destination of that league's main prize!! "It might be prudent to remember that 'politics' is best left to politicians, be it in Downing street's recent 'hung paliarment' coalition or elsewhere...

In the final analysis, negative', 'insignificant' issues like ignorance, bigotry and downright disgraceful conduct have no place in society or football. However, the commitment, faith, belief, loyalty and understanding shown by each and every one of my players ensured we could and can still continue to celebrate a truly magnificent, epic, history making triumph. A stunning victory over seemingly insurmountable odds, in the most remarkable comeback since... Well a certain boxer springs to mind... Allez NASA!!!!"

TEAM HONOURS LIST- (2010): Player of the year (Tied): Jevan Jull/ Gareth 'Gav' Greener; Top Goalscorer: Suaibu 'Drogba' Nkuriza & Most Valuable Player; Derek Ekpo - *(Special Managers Award)

Ignorance, lack of understanding and fear of the unknown have led many to take up the fight against 'stigma', discrimination and inaccurate diagnosis! Rumours, malicious tales and such negativity can damage the lives of those who are not perhaps strong enough to overcome significant shame and pain, at somehow failing by having a weakness of sorts in the mind!

Thankfully, life throws a whole manner of challenges and obstacles for each to overcome in their own individual or collective manner. As such those who suffer depression be it 'manic or schizophrenic' or in this case periodic attacks of low moods, panic and nervous energy usually have to come to terms with the general view of the majority? That they are 'crazy', 'mad', 'insane', have 'lost the plot', are the proverbial 'nutters', 'crackers', bad people etc, etc.. Truth of the matter is far from such hurtful and ignorant phrases! In fact, like the majority, they're also Gods children, albeit some whose 'path' has taken a slightly different detour or route to others....

Far from being villified and treated with contempt due to ignorance and hidden fear, they should actually be celebrated even revered as fellow human beings who have taken on a major challenge to climb mountains, scale peaks and reach the top with everything still intact...

Fact? You cannot catch it, it certainly is not in any way contagious, infectious or indeed dangerous to others.... What actually constitutes danger is more the ignorant majority who characterise such stigma and negativity, pushing until in some cases adverse reactions are forthcoming)!! Resulting in more damaging negative publicity and yet further confirmation of the fears of those with ignorant minds... Truth? Majority of mental health sufferers are totally harmless to anyone but themselves and my key words for ending this ignorance is 'understanding' and 'tolerance'!

Another devastating display from 'Continental' roasted and cooked the 'West End' boys in a brutally physical, highly intimidating and mentally testing fixture at Bullocksteads, Kenton Bar.. Third placed West End were on form the outstanding team in the premier division at this time and harbouring serious title claims themselves. However without fail NASA stepped up to the mark and Kingpin (Akpofure OTT) would have expected nothing less than full commitment from his big players to win the game in the first half. Normally such a tantalising, mouth-watering affair would have been highly enjoyable, but squad absentees meant he was again missing what would have been a far more powerful potent line-up. The injured Jonny Song-Amouzouvi, Agbatar, Dumbuya, Elstrom Die, Felix Dika-Tocko, Chan, Ansah and Bentil meant little as NASA once again proved their worth as contenders for all the competitions 'big prizes'.. MOM: Celio Vasconcelo along with captain Jevan Jull, the outstanding Gareth ‘Gav’ Greener and Derek Ekpo, together with the excellent Daniel Turnbull (who produced a top display at ‘Left Wing’ (Left Full Back)? Scoring the crucial first goal to set his team on their way. A number of unsavoury incidents subsequently occurred, with West End letting themselves down in terms of discipline, sportsmanship and humanity. However, we will not dwell on those parts of a magnificent match which gave Referee Steven Armstrong, in his words, a ‘baptism of fire’!! Matches like those are what make season’s for teams and certainly Continental showed their mettle 100%!

(CC League Fixture) v Moorside-Backworth FC:@Bullocksteads Sports Centre *(28th March 2010) (2-0) WIN /halftime: (2-0) *(Dan Turnbull, Omar Khalifa)
NASA: (4/4/2) – Romei Mohsen, *(8) Peter Thomson, *(7) ) Glenn Ford, *(9) Jevan Jull, *(8) Kevein Chima Onyegbule, *(8) Nelo Batista, *(7) Derek Ekpo, *(7) Celio Vasconcelo, *(9) Dan Turnbull, *(9) Omar Khalifa, *(8) Beny Dumbuya, *(8) - (SUBS): Francis Chitende On for Pete Thomson, (8); Kelvein Omoigui for Nelo Batista *(7)

Highflying early season league leaders Moorside were brutally brought down to earth in a tremendous footballing clash with NASA! Continental who were beginning to make their presence felt as big, big championship challengers set about producing a 60 mins virtuoso performance of high quality play, in front of a sizeable Kingston Park crowd, to stake their claim for silverware in the current season... Goals from Dan Turnbull and Khalifa Abdul Omar 'Sabinho' secured the win, while Beny Dumbuya was very unlucky to miss out on a 'hat-trick', coming up against an inspired keeper... Once again there were a number of 'unsavoury happenings' on and off-field, but just as before the quality of Continental managed to shine through and they got the game wrapped up well before the Ref blew for time albeit a touch early some pointed out!

With due respect there'd been all kinds of posturing, talking and manouvering going on since August. That was sorted and the action finally took place where it truly counts.. On the park! NASA once again had to deal with some seriously certified x-rated play from their opponents. Having had x3 lads with bad shin/thigh injuries... x1 head-butt victim in a minor skirmish quietly but firmly handled by the Ref (Happens in football all over the world)....Luckily the boys have quickly seen the 'light' and now virtually all are equipped with superb quality 'shin pads' and ready for whatever is thrown at them....

Thank the Lord for his mercies! We'll surely be needing them in a very tough season run-in with 5 dedicated 'home' games among a shuddering fixture programme!

Any silverware coming NASA's way is surely going to be well deserved after what the lads have experienced over the season... NASA 'Kingpin' Akpofure then stepped up to show his other side, finally releasing 2 of his top stars before the closure of the league's fortnight's 'transfer window'. Sadly but unavoidably having to ditching the now departed but hitherto uncommitted and totally unreliable Edusei and instantly replacing them with ex York City academy stopper AJ Clark and Ponteland's Dave 'Boy 'Boxer' Green' Shaxon.. In another decisive move, dropping/leaving out the under-performing, over-complacent and somewhat 'disruptive' Nkuriza-Drogba and Osaks-Omoigui in a ruthless show as the season's run-in begins to gather shape...

(CC League Fixture) v Central Heaton FC:@Bullocksteads Sports Centre *(20th September 2009) (6-1) WIN /halftime: (2-1) *(Elstrom Die 3, Suaibu Nkuriza, Gareth Greener, Francis Chitende)
NASA: (4/4/2) – Romei Mohsen, *(8) Jonathan Agbatar, *(7) ) Lacina Diabate, *(6) Jonny Song, *(6) Felix Dika, *(7) *(7) Derek Ekpo, *(6) Gareth Greener, *(7) Chris Chan, *(7) Elstrom Die, *(9) Suaibu Nkuriza, *(8) - (SUBS): Francis Chitende On for Derek Ekpo, (7); John Ayilli for Lacina Diabate *(8); Kevein Onyegbule for Jonny Song *(7)
(MAN OF THE MATCH: *Elstrom ‘El Chou-Chou’ Die *(9): NOT USED): *Diaby Lamine/Kelvein Omoigui
MANAGER; AKPOFURE OTT/HEAD COACH: Olivier ‘Legend’ Bernard

A devastating display from 'Continental' cooked the 'BoilerMen' of Central Heaton and ate them up for dinner at Bullocksteads, Kenton Bar.. The 2nd placed Heaton boys taking on 5th placed NASA would normally have been a tantalising, mouth-watering affair, but squad losses and transfers over the past season or so had reduced Heaton to a shadow of their once magnificent classy side. NASA however, have gone from strength to strength and once again are proving to be highly dangerous contenders for all the competitions 'big prizes'... MOM: Elstrom 'Stromy' Die took the eye with a blistering display of forward play, allied by brilliant young forward Suaibu 'Drogba', their movement tore Heaton's defence to shreds and but for very lax finishing, magnificent goalkeeping by Heaton's Gallagher and one or two highly suspect decisions the scoreline would have been well into double figures... Heaton also had quite a few tremendous opportunities and forced NASA'S Mohsen Romei into 2 or 3 brilliant stops to keep the scoreline as impressive as it was at the final whistle.. With another 3 meetings to come, 2 in 2 separate cups plus the return league clash, there's no doubt the 'BoilerMen' will be hungry for sweet revenge... All good hype for the overall quality of the CCL...

(CC League Fixture) v AFC Seghill:@Bullocksteads Sports Centre *(April 2010) (1-3) WIN /halftime: (0-1) *( Suaibu Nkuriza 2, Glenn Ford) - NASA: (4/4/1/1) – Darren Thompson, *(8) David Shaxon, *(8) ) Jevan Jull, *(9) Glenn Ford, *(9) Peter Thompson, *(8) *(7) Dale Conway, *(8) Gareth Greener, *(8) Louis Ansah, *(8) Dan Turnbull, *(8) Suaibu Nkuriza, *(8), Pascal Ekwulugo *(8) - (SUBS): NONE
(MAN OF THE MATCH: *MANAGER AKPOFURE OTT!!!!!!! -

Probably the very best feeling those involved ever had at a game of football (Quote for quote)!! This was the day that NASA found true spirit, friendship, commitment, heart and class. With the likes of Ekpo, Onyegbule Kevein, Dumbuya, Die, Khalifa, Celio, Felix-Dika, Francis Chitende, Jonathan Agbatar, Song, Manara, Ayilli et al missing at a critical time in the season this could have been the game where the title challenge fell off the rails. However, all the boys present on the night were fully committed and manager and kingpin (Akpofure) himself produced a barnstorming performance, remaining calm and assured throughout, he persuaded 2 of his brilliant players (Ford and Pascal) to step up for the cause, resulting in NASA closing the match out at full strength, after kicking off with just 9 men, holding high class Seghill at bay and having the temerity to take the lead through the superb ‘Drogba’ Nkuriza. An excellent keeping display by Darren Thompson and the outstanding Peter Thomson at Left Back, all knitted together by the exceptional (Captain) fantastic Jevan Jull and Dave Shaxon. The ‘cavalry’ arrived with Glenn Ford’s dash up the road from Hexham after work and Pascal ‘Paco’ Ekwulugo taking time off from his weekend wedding preparations to come and rescue his team in their hour of need..
